Doral’s Auto Repair is the premier automotive maintenance, service, and repair shop in San Leandro. We have recently added new capability – we can now provide a/c recharge using the new R-1234YF refrigerant.
The old R-134a refrigerant is deemed unfriendly to the environment, so the new R-1234YF refrigerant was developed. It is now standard on many new vehicles in the United States and in Europe. While the new refrigerant is considered vastly superior to the old one, servicing a/c systems for cars using R-1234YF refrigerant requires costly new equipment, so few independent shops are willing to bear the expense. At Doral’s we are committed to providing our customers with the highest quality services and state-of-the-art tools, so it was natural that we would acquire R-1234YF certified equipment and train our technicians in its use.
Does your vehicle require the new R-1234YF refrigerant? If you are not sure, check the owner’s manual. The refrigerant might be listed under any one of the following designations: HFO1234YF, R-1234-YF, HFO-1234-YF, R1234YF, YF1234, HFO-1234, R1234 or YF-1234.
Our San Leandro auto repair shop offers full service testing, recharging, and repairs of R-1234YF a/c systems. The new refrigerant is not only better for the environment, but so is the new equipment. It is designed with different fittings so there can be no accidental cross-contamination between the old and the new refrigerant. As a matter of fact, the new R-1234YF air conditioning equipment has an on-board refrigerant identifier, and it will not recover contaminated refrigerant.
There is one big drawback to the new refrigerant – currently it’s a lot more expensive than the old R-134a. That’s why it is particularly important to have professional technicians inspect and test automotive air conditioning systems for leaks. Over time, as the production expands to meet the demand, we expect the cost of R-1234YF to come down. In the meantime, it already has come down quite a bit since it first came out. If you suspect any a/c leak – call us for appointment.
Before we can recharge your vehicle’s air conditioning system, we must test it for leaks – State of California requires testing and repair of any leaks before an AC system can be recharged. The goal is to prevent leaks of AC refrigerant into the atmosphere, and it also saves the vehicle owners a lot of money, since the new refrigerant is expensive. The new equipment is also designed to facilitate this process – it will not recharge the ac system if a leak is detected.
Our San Leandro auto repair shop offers full range of automotive air conditioning services and repairs, including both the old R-134a refrigerant and the new R-1234YF refrigerant recharge services.
So if your vehicle’s air conditioning is blowing warm air, or the a/c system does not work, we can help.
