Clutch Repair in San Leandro

Doral’s Auto Repair has been providing San Leandro residents with superior auto repair services for over 50 years. We offer a broad range of services, including clutch service and repair.

Most of us do not think about it, but the most important function of the clutch is to disengage the transmission from the motor. When the engine is turned on, it is constantly spinning. The transmission transfers this motion to the drive shaft, which then transfers the motion to the wheels. But there are times when you don’t want this motion transmission to occur – when the car is standing still with the engine on, for example when waiting for a change of light at an intersection, or when you are shifting gears – that’s when we use the clutch to disengage the transmission from the engine.

Clutch Service & Clutch Replacement

Over time your clutch will wear out. Eventually, the clutch disc will wear down to the point that it needs to be replaced. The good news is that clutch replacement is a relatively simple operation. Another clutch repair that may be needed is the replacement of stretched cable controls. Occasionally, air bubbles may occur in the hydraulic line, or there may be a leak in the hydraulics.

If you think that there are issues with the clutch, bring it to Doral’s for a professional inspection and diagnosis. We will pinpoint the problem and let you know what needs to be done to remedy the issue – it may turn out that clutch replacement is not necessary, and that clutch adjustment is all your vehicle needs.

Additionally, for your peace of mind, we will perform a digital vehicle inspection (including photos), and provide you with an electronic copy of the results, so you know the overall health of your vehicle and can make informed decisions, as well as plan for future vehicle maintenance needs.

How often does the clutch need to be replaced?

There is no set time for a clutch replacement – it’s a combination of how you drive, type of traffic (stop-and-go traffic wears out clutch much sooner than cruising on a highway), and the vehicle itself. In some cases, clutch replacement may be needed after 30,000 miles, but we also see vehicles that have gone 100,000 miles without a need for a clutch replacement.

Signs that the Clutch Needs Replacement

  • problems shifting gears
  • when trying to overtake another vehicle, the engine revs up but the speed remains unchanged
  • scratching or grinding sound when shifting gears
  • going up a steep incline, the engine's revolutions go up without an increase in speed
  • when you press the clutch pedal, the pedal travels less than usual, yet the clutch disengages

If you notice any of the above symptoms, bring your vehicle to Doral’s for a professional inspection. When you bring your car or light truck to our San Leandro auto repair facility, you will not only be welcomed by our friendly staff but will also receive:
