Transmission Fluid Change in San Leandro, CA

Doral's Auto Repair • February 23, 2024

Doral’s Auto Repair in San Leandro offers a broad range of automotive maintenance services, including transmission fluid change. Unlike oil change, which for most of us is regular event with a 6 month interval, transmission fluid change rarely comes on our radar. That’s because for most vehicles, it only happens once every 3 or 4 years. But it should not be neglected – healthy transmission, whether manual transmission or automatic transmission, is necessary to the well-being of your vehicle. And transmission replacement is a very expensive affair. So how can you maximize the life of your vehicle’s transmission? Timely transmission fluid change is the answer.

Transmission fluid needs to be replaced for two primary reasons: mechanical and heat deterioration, as well as deterioration due to the passage of time. Both cause negative changes in the chemical and mechanical properties of the fluid, thus making it less effective in protecting your vehicle’s transmission from wear due to regular use. As a matter of fact, dirty transmission fluid that carries debris accumulated over the years can actually accelerate transmission wear.

So how often should transmission fluid be exchanged? The rule of thumb says that manual transmissions can go about 50,000 miles between transmission fluid changes. Automatic transmission, on the other hand, should have the transmission fluid flush every 30,000 to 40,000 miles. You can check your vehicle’s Owner’s Handbook for the interval recommended by the manufacturer for your particular make and model.

At Doral’s Auto Repair in San Leandro we can perform transmission fluid exchange as a same-day service, and provide your vehicle with new transmission fluid that will properly lubricate and protect your vehicle’s transmission. Our nationally ASE certified technicians will also perform a complimentary digital vehicle inspection to check various subsystems of your vehicle for impending problems.

So if it’s been a few years since the last transmission fluid flush, call our San Leandro auto care facility and schedule an appointment – we are passionate about the work we do and will take great care of your vehicle.

It’s been a warm year, but the winter chills are upon us. So it is time to bring your vehicle to our San Leandro auto repair facility for a Winter Checkup. As the weather gets colder, your vehicle’s systems are put under more strain. We want to make sure that everything is working just right, so there are no unpleasant surprises in your future. Your vehicle’s battery can be a concern – cold weather makes batteries less efficient. A marginal battery that worked flawlessly during warm summer months may die unexpectedly on a cold winter morning. That’s why battery check, and verification that it holds a charge, is a high priority. Heating system should be checked as well. While you can perform the basic test yourself – it either heats the car or does not, it’s good to have a professional check the system for any issues that might not be immediately obvious, or may not quite impact its heating capability– yet. It’s good to check the defrost function as well. And then there are tires. When it comes to wet weather, tires are a safety item. Bold tires greatly increase probability of hydroplaning and risk of an accident. If your vehicle needs to stop suddenly on a wet roadway, bold tires are not your friend. You can inspect the tires yourself, or let our technicians inspect the tires for you. This is also a good time to check tire alignment and perform tire alignment if necessary. We recommend combining Winter Checkup with an oil change – you save time, and we will also perform our complimentary digital vehicle inspection which is designed to uncover any developing problems. If we find any, you will have an opportunity to plan ahead and get them fixed before the full brunt of winter storms is upon us. So call our San Leandro auto repair shop, and our friendly service advisors will be happy to answer your questions and schedule an appointment. If you find online scheduling more convenient, you can do so on our website.

Doral’s Auto Repair is a family owned and operated auto repair shop that offers comprehensive automotive services and repairs in San Leandro. Yet one of the most important services we offer is a simple, lowly oil change. We all know cars need regular oil change, yet often life gets in the way. At Doral’s we urge you to make oil changes a high priority. First and foremost, regular oil changes extend engine life. In addition, they allow your vehicle to perform at its best, as the fresh engine oil lowers friction and carries away debris that naturally get generated when multiple moving parts work closely together. An added bonus – when you bring your vehicle for an oil change, it gives us an opportunity to inspect your vehicle for any signs of impending problems. The dreaded “check engine light” has been introduced to alert drivers that something is not right with the car. But is it ok to drive around with the light “on”? The answer is twofold. Is the check engine light flashing? If it is, you should not drive the vehicle at all. Park it where it’s safe to do so, turn off the engine, and have the car towed to a repair shop. If the check engine light is not flashing and the car drives normally, there seem to be no issues with the engine, no misfires, then it’s usually ok to drive home, and then take it to a repair shop.
